Celtics Knot Up Series at 1-1

In the NBA, the Boston Celtics tie up the series at 1 game a piece. Rondo's triple double and Ray Allen's 32 points give the Celtics the push to win in LA. The final score was 103-94.

"Twilight" sequel shines at MTV Movie Awards

(Reuters) - The sun never seems to set on the "Twilight" movie franchise.

The second film in the vampire romance series won five prizes at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, just as the first picture did a year ago.

In what amounted to a two-hour infomercial for the blockbuster, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" was named best movie, while stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson picked up multiple honors.

Fans were also treated to an exclusive preview of the third film, "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," which opens in theaters on June 30.

Stewart won for best female performance and best kiss, sharing the latter award with Pattinson. The real-life lovers staged a deliberately awkward smooch for the benefit of the overly excitable "Twilight" fans who seemed to dominate the crowd at the Gibson Amphitheatre near Hollywood. Pattinson also won for best male performance, and was named global superstar.

While the profanity-laced ceremony is tailored to MTV's core audience of teens and twentysomethings, relative veterans Tom Cruise and Sandra Bullock gave the youngsters a few lessons in showbiz.

Cruise stole the show in the first half hour when he dropped his serious persona to take to the stage for a highly choreographed dance routine with Jennifer Lopez.

Reviving his bald alter ego Les Grossman, a boorish movie-studio executive character in the 2008 comedy "Tropic Thunder," the 47-year-old actor wowed the crowd with a saucy, booty-slapping, crotch-grabbing performance that climaxed with a splits worthy of James Brown.

"It was a lot of fun," he told reporters afterward.

BULLOCK KEEPS IT IN PERSPECTIVE

Bullock received a career achievement award, and briefly made out with Scarlett Johannson.

"Now that we have done that, can we please go back to normal? Because therapy is really expensive," she said, evidently trying to defuse the outpouring of pity in the wake of her marital woes.

"Go back to making fun of me, I don't care ... And I think when we all go to bed tonight, just to think about all the people that are being affected in the Gulf (by the BP oil spill) and just say a prayer for them."

Betty White, the octogenarian "Golden Girls" actress riding a new wave of popularity, described Bullock as "a national treasure," said she had seen all of her films, and hailed her "portrayal of Stevie Wonder in 'The Blind Side.'"

Airing three months after the Academy Awards, the MTV event provides a welcome opportunity for stars to applaud themselves in the media spotlight. The winners are usually notified in advance, which explains why they have aisle seats and look underwhelmed when their names are called.

Still, British actor Tom Felton of the "Harry Potter" franchise said backstage that he was embarrassed to take the best villain statuette over Christoph Waltz, who won virtually every prize during awards season for "Inglourious Basterds."

"It's ridiculous really, isn't it?" he told Reuters. "To be in the same category as him is a bit of a joke, really, let alone to actually beat him."

Armando Antonio Galarraga (born January 15, 1982, in CumanĂ¡, Venezuela) is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Detroit Tigers. Galarraga made his Major League Baseball debut with the Texas Rangers on September 15, 2007.
Galarraga originally signed as a free agent with the Montreal Expos on October 31, 1998. He was acquired by the Rangers from the Washington Nationals as part of the deal that sent Alfonso Soriano to the Nationals in 2005.

Missed call ends Galarraga's perfect bid
----------------------------------------

DETROIT -- Tigers right-hander Armando Galarraga nearly made history, and might have anyway. He fell one batter and a disputed call shy of a perfect game, settling for a one-hitter in a 3-0 Tigers victory over the Indians on Wednesday night at Comerica Park.

What would've been the third perfect game this season and the first in Tigers history instead ended up with a controversial ending when rookie Jason Donald hit a ground ball to first with two outs in the ninth inning. Miguel Cabrera fielded it towards the hole and flipped to Galarraga covering first, but first-base umpire Jim Joyce ruled Galarraga didn't have his foot on the bag.

Replays showed Galarraga had his foot on the bag before Donald got there. The play was ruled an infield single, breaking up the no-hitter as well as the perfect game.

"I just cost that kid a perfect game," Joyce said. "I thought he beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw, until I saw the replay. It was the biggest call of my career."

Galarraga said he gave Joyce a hug when Joyce apologized to him after the game.

"He really feels bad," Galarraga said. "He probably feels more bad than me. Nobody is perfect. I give a lot of credit to that guy. That (an apology) doesn't happen. He apologized. He feels really bad. Nobody is perfect. What am I gonna do? His body language said more than a lot of words. His eyes were watery, he didn't have too say much. His body language said a lot."

Galarraga retired Trevor Crowe to preserve the shutout, but Tigers players Gerald Laird and Jeremy Bonderman took a detour from the postgame celebration to have words with Joyce, as did manager Jim Leyland.

"That's the nature of the business, that's just the way it is. The players are human, the umpires are human, the managers are human, the writers are human," Leyland said. "We all make mistakes. It's a crying shame. Jimmy's a real good umpire, has been for a long time. He probably got it wrong."

The play in question came two batters after Austin Jackson made a basket catch in deep left-center field to preserve the bid for perfection.

"He's human," Jackson said of Joyce. "He made a mistake, but at the same time, we did get the win. In our minds, that was a perfect game. We're taking it as that. It ranks right up there with the best."

It would've been an incredible feat for someone who wasn't in the Detroit rotation until a few weeks ago and was skipped in the rotation last weekend. But on a night when Cleveland batters kept swinging and missing at Galarraga's retooled slider, the Venezuelan sent down the first 26 batters in order in remarkably efficient fashion. He finished with 88 pitches, 67 of them for strikes.

Galarraga's first start since May 22 showed none of the rust one might have expected and all of the bite in his slider that the Tigers hoped to see after extra work in the bullpen. He didn't face a three-ball count until Travis Hafner worked one leading off the fifth.

Until Jackson's catch, the only challenging defensive play the Indians mustered through eight innings was Russell Branyan's comebacker to end the fifth. Galarraga deflected it, but right to third baseman Brandon Inge, who fired to first for the out.

Galarraga barely had any time to let his arm cool down. Detroit held a slim 1-0 lead, with Miguel Cabrera's second-inning solo homer accounting for the lone run. Cleveland's Fausto Carmona was working almost as efficiently as Galarraga for quick outs, finishing with 96 pitches.

Galarraga seemed to get stingier as the game got deeper. He needed just 10 pitches to retire the side in the fifth, eight pitches to do the same in the sixth, then tossed a six-pitch seventh and an 11-pitch eighth.

Dallas Braden tossed the 19th perfect game in Major League history May 9 against the Rays. Roy Halladay made it 20 with a perfect outing against the Marlins on Saturday.

No Tigers hurler has pitched a perfect game. Justin Verlander pitched Detroit's last no-hitter, on June 12, 2007, against the Brewers.

Guatemala Giant Sinkhole

Poor Guatemala, first they had a volcanic eruption, now they just experienced a devastating storm. And instead of flooding and landslides we usually encounter in the Philippines, Guatemala has experienced a very huge sinkhole right after the tragic storm. How's that for an almost perfect circle.

The weird thing is this isn't the first time Guatemala encountered this. This also happened in February 26, 2007.

February 26, 2007—After rumbling for weeks, part of a poor Guatemala City neighborhood plummeted some 30 stories into the Earth on Friday.

The reportedly 330-foot-deep (100-meter-deep) sinkhole swallowed about a dozen homes and is so far blamed in the deaths of three people—two teenagers, found floating in torrent of sewage, and their father, who was pulled from the chasm.

Rainstorms and a ruptured sewer main may have caused the sinkhole, officials in Guatemala told the Associated Press. After the collapse, the seemingly bottomless depths gave off tremors, sounds of flowing water, and the scent of sewage.

Sinkholes can occur when underground rocks that can be dissolved by water—such as salt, gypsum, and limestone—are inundated. The removal of groundwater can also leave gaps underground that can lead to sinkholes.

While the cause of the Guatemala City abyss remains uncertain, it's effects are undeniable.

Police established a 500-yard (457-meter) no-go zone around the sinkhole, and nearly a thousand people were forced to evacuate—some perhaps forever.

"Last night a friend had to take my handicapped wife out on motorcycle," 15-year resident Antonio Fuentes, 50, told the Associated Press. "Now I'm leaving for good, never to come back."
