Tony Allen - Kobe Bryant's Kryptonite?
With the Celtics now leading the NBA finals at 3-2, much of Boston's success has been attributed to their bench scoring. But it isn't only bench scoring which has helped the Celtics, bench defense has been doing a lot of damage to LA. One player being singled out is Tony Allen, TA as they sometimes call him has been doing a tremendous job on defending Kobe and has been irritating Kobe shot after shot.
Who is Boston Celtics' Tony Allen?
Anthony Allen (born January 11, 1982 in Chicago, Illinois), commonly referred to as Tony Allen, is an American professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the NBA. A swingman, he can play as a guard or forward.
Allen played at Chicago's Crane High School, where he was a basketball standout. At Crane, Allen played alongside future Celtics prospect Will Bynum. A 6 ft 4 in (1.93 m), 213 lb (97 kg; 15.2 st) shooting guard, Allen spent his freshman year (2000-01) playing for Butler County College in El Dorado, Kansas, where he averaged 16.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.8 steals, going on to being named Jayhawk West Conference Freshman of the Year. During his sophomore year (2001-02) at Wabash Valley College in Mount Carmel, Illinois, he led his team to 32-6 overall record and fourth place at the NJCAA championships.
For his final two college seasons (2002–2004), Allen transferred to Oklahoma State University (OSU), where he was named the national junior-college transfer of the year by collegeinsider.com, and cited by college basketball commentator Dick Vitale as one of the top three junior college transfers during his junior season. He was named the Big 12 Player of the Year his senior year, after averaging 16 points per game and leading the Cowboys to the Final Four. Allen became the first player in OSU history to score 1,000 career points in just two seasons. He graduated Oklahoma State with a degree in education.

Boston Celtics backup guard Tony Allen not comfortable with stopper label when guarding Kobe Bryant
BOSTON -- Boston Celtics guard Tony Allen said there is no such thing as a Kobe Bryant stopper although he defended him adequately in the fourth quarter in Game 4 of the NBA Finals Thursday night.
Allen came off the bench in the quarter and helped forced Bryant to miss 2-of-6 shots from the field that enabled the Celtics to close out the game with a 96-89 victory at the TD Garden.
“I’ve never heard anything about me being a Kobe stopper,’’ Allen said. “Our whole thing is that it’s all five guys doing it together.’’
Despite Bryant’s fourth-quarter problems, he still scored a game-high 33 points. With the series tied at 2-2, Bryant leads the Lakers with a 28.3 scoring average.
“Tony’s main focus is defense,’’ Celtics Coach Doc Rivers said. “But yeah, Kobe is pretty competitive from what I hear, so there’s no doubt that the more you talk about it, the more the target is on. But that’s fine. The one thing I know about Tony, he’s not going anywhere. He’ll be there.’’
